Scam awareness

Guides to the scams FamVerify helps you check.

Impersonation scams work because they feel real. These short, plain-English guides explain how each one works, why it convinces careful people, and the simple habit - a fresh trusted-phone check - that cuts through it.

The one habit that helps

Every guide here ends with the same advice: when a call, message or request feels wrong, don't argue with it and don't trust your ears alone. Ask for a fresh response from the trusted phone linked to that person's identity.

FamVerify works like a family safe word - except it can't be overheard, guessed or reused, and a cloned voice or deepfake still can't answer it. Each response is signed fresh by the trusted phone behind a FamVerify identity.

A successful check confirms a trusted phone responded. It does not make a request safe - treat payments and urgent requests as a separate decision, even after a successful check.

Share this with someone who'd benefit

These scams succeed against careful, intelligent people every day. If a guide here would help a parent, grandparent or friend, send it to them - the few minutes it takes to read are far cheaper than the alternative.

If someone has already been targeted, contact the bank immediately using the number on the back of the card, and report it to Action Fraud (UK) or the local police on 101. In an emergency, always call 999.
